Housebreaking Archives

I have a 9 week old puppy, I have been having a hard time house breaking him lately. When I catch him in the act I grab him up and run him outside hoping he will do his business out there. But when I take him out there he wont go, he just keeps trying to walk to the door because its so hot outside.

Is there anything I can do to get him house broken?

Thanks

I just got a new puppy yesterday and I was wondering if anyone knew the easiest way to potty train them. I know there is no real simple way but I’ve read about lots of methods and I’m not sure which one will be the most effective. I’ve owned many dogs before but they’ve already been trained once I’ve gotten them so I’m very new to this. Any advice is appreciated.

I have a 12wk old male Beagle puppy. I’ve had him since he was 6wks. I recently just moved to another apartment complex. (We have been here almost a wk.) The problem is at my old complex he hardly never had any accidents. Maybe once a day. Here it seems that every time I turn around I’m having to clean up poop or pee. I use puppy pads but he only goes on those while I’m at work and he is in the laundry room. The rest of the day he does his business wherever he wants to.When he does that I tell him "bad dog" and he seems to understand that I am mad at him. I take him out every 2 hrs for a long time and praise him like crazy outside and give him a treat inside when he goes. But nothing seems to be working. I’m taking him to the Vet next week to make sure everything is ok with him. Any suggestion would be welcomed. Right now I’m at a lost for what to do. Am I worrying to soon or am I doing something wrong?

My 9 wk. old Scottish Terrier puppy refuses to go to the bathroom outside. I have him on a strict feeding schedule per vets advice. About 20 minutes after eating he starts sniffing & circling the floor but when I take him out he wont go. I bring him back in wait until he shows signs again then take him back out, still refuses to go outside. I have cleaned the "accident areas" in the house with Natures Miracle so there is no scent to draw him. When he’s outside all he wants to do is chew on everything in site instead of do his business. I have tried using a squirt bottle & pennies in a can to deter this behavior to no avail. Also, even though I get up at least 2-3 times during the night to take him out he will pee in his cage. His cage is dry when I take him out, he refuses to go, I take him back in wait 15-30 minutes and he has peed in his cage. I thought dogs didn’t like to go in their "den". I have a divider in the cage to make it as small an area as possible so he wont soil his sleeping area. Any adice? I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I am at my wits end. Never had these problems with other puppies in the past.
