I have a chocolate lab that walks like a magnet by me & I have never used it, but my friends 110 pound chocolate does need something and his owners use it and it works like a charm ... If you watch many dogs that wear them you see them trying to take it off by rubbing it on the ground, etc. However, for some dogs I do agree with you that they are highly effective and work well as a way to control your dog. I know it takes time to teach a dog things, but I have been walking this dog everyday for about 9 years.
