I was suggesting that for dogs that are extremely hard to walk ... maybe a dog one adopts and is older and has no training whatsoever. I have a chocolate lab that walks like a magnet by me & I have never used it, but my friends 110 pound chocolate does need something and his owners use it and it works like a charm ...

A halti/gentle leader works more effectively on horses because they are fight or flight animals and they mainly rely on their legs as a means of protection. Unfortunately, halti/gentle leaders are not as effective for dogs.

Dogs are predatory animals so by using a gentle leader it basically takes away their only defense. If you watch many dogs that wear them you see them trying to take it off by rubbing it on the ground, etc. However, for some dogs I do agree with you that they are highly effective and work well as a way to control your dog. For some dogs that are unsure of themselves, nervous, etc., it causes heightened aggression & fear.

forget a prong collar & choke chains .... halti or gentle leader works beautifully .... They both are VERY effective, humane tool for leash training & daily management of hard to control dogs. Its revolutionary design is based on the same principle as a horse's head collar - if you guide the head, the body will surely follow.

My dog is not distracted when I walk her, she is just a puller, she is focused, and well tempered, I have tryed that method also, it does not teach her, I think it's the Akita in her that makes her so stubborn. I know it takes time to teach a dog things, but I have been walking this dog everyday for about 9 years.
